Mercedes-Benz India organised a classic car rally to celebrate 120 years of its Motorsport heritage and first victory at FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) Formula One ‘world’s constructors championship’. The three pointed stars has been present in India for a while now with its 5 outlets inaugurated in 2014. It offers a wide range of products in India. It emerged as the most awarded luxury automotive brands in 2013.
Mercedes-Benz, a leading German luxury car manufacturer won its first Grand prix in 1908, now this pioneer in motorsports has won its first ever FIA Formula One title. Thus, it organised a car rally showcasing some of finest classic cars. The rally commenced at 9.30 IST on 9th November, 2014 from NCPA with diverse range of classic and vintage Mercedes-Benz models. The rally toured through Peddar road, Bandra-Worli sea link and Haji Ali. The cheering crowd in Mumbai saw stunning range of heritage cars. The classics touring through Mumbai’s marvelous places include Pontons such as the W120s, Fintails such as the W110 and the W111, and recent classics like the W124 and the W108. The new age AMG monsters including the SLS AMG, ML63 AMG, SLK55 AMG, adding to the fun, grabbed the attention of the crowd.
Mercedes has been involved in motorsport activities since a long time. Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Eberhard Kern said, “Mercedes-Benz made history by participating in the world’s first automobile competition in 1894. Having won its first Grand Prix in 1908 and many more accolades it is remarkable to see it do so well in its first outing at the F1 after the major change in rules.”
Many car lovers joined the rally and made their presence felt at this momentous occasion . This Mercedes-Benz classic car rally with its graceful heritage cars was witnessed by the parade and took the enthusiastic crowd back to the vintage era. It opened a 120 year old chapter of Mercedes-Benz history which surely the people of Mumbai will never forget.
