Mercedes has launched the iconic roadster in India which now finds itself in the 7th generation.
The legendary Mercedes AMG SL55 has been launched in India with a starting price of a whopping Rs 2.35 Crore, ex-showroom. It comes in a single fully-loaded AMG SL55 4MATIC+ trim. You would also find the classic soft top making its way back to the SL Class. With over 7 decades of legacy in performance driving, you would expect the latest generation SL to boast some pretty crazy specification numbers. Mercedes AMG SL55 – Exterior
Being a performance monster, the body of the SL55 is made up of a mix of steel, magnesium, fibre composites and aluminium allowing a lightweight construction without comprising on rigidity. The front profile is quite sensuous with elements like sharp Digital Light LED headlamps, a massive AMG-specific radiator grille, 14 vertical slats hosting the iconic tri-star logo, aerodynamic elements to make the surface slippery, elegant 20-inch alloy wheels (21-inch optional), long bonnet, frameless doors, and more. All in all, it certainly looks like a modern version of the legend which must’ve been the plan.

Interior and Features
Despite the car’s prime focus on performance and exterior stylish, we must not forget that Mercedes is known for making some of the most luxurious automobiles on the planet since time immemorial. In fact, that is the reason it is the most common car marque in the celebrity parlance all around the world. The interior of the new SL has a combination of analogue geometry and the digital world which Mercedes calls “hyperanalogue”. It consists of a fully digital instrument cluster which is integrated into a 3D visor, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, Burmester Audio with Dolby Atmos, 8 airbags, Digital controls on steering for throttle and suspension settings and active lane keep assist. The upholstery is premium Nappa Leather along with quilting patterns making one remember that they are sitting in a Merc after all.

Specs
Under that long hood is where all the magic happens. It comes powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 476 hp and 700 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine is mated to a 9G-AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT gearbox that powers all four wheels via Merc’s trademark 4MATIC drivetrain. This launched the roadster from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 secs with the top speed capped at 295 km/h. To maximize traction, there is a fully variable torque distribution with active rear steering. There is a retractable spoiler above 100 km/h for active aero, quad AMG exhaust, and ceramic brakes (optional).
