India is home to some of the most exciting contraptions and this auto rickshaw into Mahindra Thar conversion is certainly one of them. There are countless instances on the internet where the ingenuity of Indians is on display. On most occasions, people perform such innovations out of necessity rather than passion. But every now and then, we also come across some inherently creative personalities who love to make new things. Let us take a look at the details of this latest case.

Auto Rickshaw to Mahindra Thar
This post comes from Twitter by a certain Anirban Roy. He uploads the image of this unique modification. The caption reads, “This is not a Jeep. It’s an autorickshaw. Yes, this is #Meghalaya. People love their vehicles.” The image captures a vehicle that looks strikingly similar to the previous generation models of the Mahindra Thar or the vintage Jeep. However, you would recognize that the size of this vehicle is quite shrunk compared to the original SUVs. That is because the donor model for this alleged Jeep or Thar is a piddly autorickshaw.

We find autorickshaws in all corners of the country. But somehow no one thought of converting it to a Jeep before. At least, we have never come across such customization ever. There are many other ways to decorate an auto. But making it look like a Jeep is certainly unprecedented. Looking at the design, it is possible that the creator wanted a vehicle which is covered. This will help in wind, rain and sun protection. Apart from that, there are some additions to the design including the front fascia and the tyres. All in all, this is definitely an impressive display of creativity and ingenuity.

What We Think
The spirit of ‘Jugaad’ is at the core of almost all Indians. This is a perfect example to showcase that. We appreciate the dedication with which someone came up with this. Although most aftermarket car modifications are illegal in India, we believe that this doesn’t qualify as that. In fact, it might be a necessity to complete daily activities in some far-flung part of Meghalaya. India is largely a rural country. Hence, there are villages in every state. Something like this could be really conducive in such environments. That is where most innovative things are born.
