Coming as a surprise a couple of images have surfaced over the world wide web with a new SUV caught in Gurgaon near New Delhi India. The SUV caught on test does not have any badges, neither at the front and rear nor on the wheel covers but because of the logo imprints we were able to make out that the car is none other than Mazda CX-5. Initially we were unsure if the car was really under testing as it did not bear any camouflage but after a few minutes of thorough reading we became sure that it is indeed a test vehicle.
The CX-5 is the first production model to feature Mazda’s latest KODO design language that was first featured in Mazda Shinari concept car in 2010. The CX-5 is also the first model to feature Mazda’s Skyactiv Technology platform. Engine options include a 2.2 litre Skyactiv-D diesel engine and a 2.0 litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine and both come mated to a 6 speed SkyActiv Drive automatic transmission.
Launched in February 2012 in Japan the car was an instant hit and registered 8 times higher sales (monthly) than what was projected prior to the Japanese domestic market launch. The car is available in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive configurations in markets like Japan, Europe and US.
Recently Autocar had also published a news where it was clear that Mazda is keen on entering the Indian market but as of yet nothing is confirmed. If to speculate, Mazda could start its Indian journey with the CX-5 and the car could do well in our market provided it is priced right.
But another question that is arising is about the ownership of the car. Whether it has been imported by Mazda itself or an existing manufacturer in India for testing purpose, it is yet to be known.
Highlighting features include Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming with steering wheel mounted audio controls, 5.8″ Full color monitor, HD Radio, TomTom Navigation System, Rain-sensing windshield wipers, Antitheft perimeter alarm system, Bi-Xenon HID headlamps with auto leveling and auto on/off, Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), Auto dimming mirror, front and side impact airbags, ABS with EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System etc. to name a few. We will keep a close eye on the developments and will keep you posted on the same, stay tuned to Car Blog India for latest updates.
