Maruti is working on a new SUV that is all set to take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor
Maruti is one of the biggest car manufacturers in India. Among many new vehicles, the company is all set to launch twin midsize SUVs in 2022. The new models are said to come with strong hybrid tech. One of these is expected to take on the popular Hyundai Creta. Maruti’s Hyundai Creta Slayer is said to be launched in a few months. Several details of the upcoming SUV have already emerged online. Will it be able to throw the Hyundai Creta out of water? Let’s take a closer look at Maruti’s Hyundai Creta Slayer
The Hyundai Creta has dominated the midsize SUV class segment since its launch in 2015. Currently, it competes with Skoda, VW, Renault, Nissan, Kia, MG, etc. While Tata and Mahindra are working on their own versions, Maruti has partnered with Toyota to bring a strong vehicle in the midsize SUV segment. The new models will be built on a new architecture based on the Daihatsu-sourced modular platform called DNGA. It is specially designed for emerging markets. The new model will be initially built by Toyota and supplied to Maruti. Also, the Toyota SUV (codename: D22) will be launched in quick succession to the Maruti SUV (codename: YFG).

The new Maruti Toyota midsize SUVs will use strong hybrid technology (similar to the Camry). The upcoming models are expected to run on electric power alone for short bursts thanks to enough charge in their battery. This might be the unique advantage for Mariti SUVs in this segment. The current hybrid system in Maruti cars only offers an engine stop/start function and a mild electric boost to the petrol powertrain. Previously, the Maruti Suzuki S had failed to impress Indian customers. However, with Toyota’s collaboration, the company might get the foothold it has been looking for. Car lovers might also get a strong hybrid tech in a cost-effective package.
