The Maruti WagonR is quite ahead of many popular cars in India. In H1 2022, it has sold more units than Tata Tiago and Tigor put together.
Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest-selling carmaker. Recently it launched an updated version of the Maruti WagonR. While the new model looks quite similar to the old version, it gets many new features. Additionally, the 2022 Maruti WagonR facelift offers significantly higher mileage than the current model. The updated model was introduced in India on 25 February 2022 with a starting price of Rs 5,39,500 (ex-showroom). As per recent reports, it has managed to outsell many popular cars like Tata Tiago and Tigor. Let’s take a look!

The Maruti WagonR continues to maintain a secret fan base in India. In H1 2022, it sold 1,13,407 units, making it the No.1 selling car in the country. Last year, it had sold 94,879 in the same period. This amounts to a 19.58 percent increase in the sales numbers. The 2022 Maruti WagonR facelift is way ahead of the Maruti Swift which holds the number two spot with the sale of 91,177 units. In fact, the tallboy has managed to sell more than Tata Tiago (28,619 units) and Tigor (23,759 units) put together. Even in July 2022, the WagonR sold 22,568 copies as against 6,159 units of the Tiago and 5,433 units of the Tigor.
Overall, the Indian market has registered a growth of 17.51 percent over H1 2021. A total of 14,86,309 cars were sold in the first half of this year. Still, several car manufacturers have seen a sales decline in the first 6 months of this year (compared to the H1 2021). However, Maruti Suzuki is doing quite well and leading the pack. Currently, it has 7 models in the list of top 10 selling cars in the country. This includes the Maruti WagonR, Maruti Swift hatchback (91,177 units), and Dzire compact sedan (85,929 units) at the top three spots.

The 2022 Maruti Wagon R comes in four variant options – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. The LXI and VXI variants are powered by a 1.0-litre engine next-gen K-Series dual jet, dual VVT engine petrol engine (66bhp/ 89Nm) that comes in manual, AGS, and CNG options. The CNG model offers 2.1Nm of torque. On the other hand, the ZXI and ZXI+ variants are powered by the 1.2-liter engine advance K-series dual jet, dual VVT engine (89bhp/ 113Nm) with Idle Start-Stop technology that comes in both manual and AGS options. The 5-seater car comes with features like a 7-inch Smart Play Studio, four speakers, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a front seat belt reminder, a high-speed alert system, and rear parking sensors.
