Maruti is continuing with its product-offensive strategy as it is introducing new or updated products to maintain the top spot on the sales charts.
A few images that have been shared with us show the Maruti WagonR-based XL5 undergoing road trials. In a bid to attract even more new customers and keep its extensive lineup fresh in India, MSIL is amidst a total revamp of its fleet in our market. It has already launched a number of new products and updated versions of the existing models this year. With such spy shots, it looks like they aren’t done yet. We could expect a few more launches which might be a direct consequence of the pent-up demand due to the pandemic and supply chain issues.

Maruti WagonR-based XL5
In the images we have above, the rear-end of a white WagonR is seen plying on the road. However, there are a few changes to the exterior styling. That makes it clear that it is a slightly different version. Previous spy media suggests that it’s nothing but the WagonR-based XL5 that could launch soon. As is the case with every premium product from Maruti Suzuki, this would be sold via the Nexa dealership of the carmaker in India.

The rear profile is clearly visible in the video. It features regular vertically-oriented taillamps like the ones on the regular WagonR and XL6. However, there is a slight modification to the styling with a smoked black background. In addition to that, there are sporty black bits on the bumper and the reflector lights are vertically placed on either side of the rear bumper. The overall silhouette, however, remains identical to the regular model.

Other Changes
Also, as per earlier sightings, the Maruti WagonR-based XL5 gets new front grille, new bumpers, LED DRLs with projector headlamps and 15-inch alloy wheels. The rims here come from the Ignis. For the uninitiated, the WagonR gets 14-inch steel wheels with no option for alloys. The interior will have more premium fittings along with a darker colour scheme similar to what we see on the XL6. The hatchback will even offer some new features.

It is entirely possible that this version could be sold through the Nexa dealerships. This pretty much explains a slight resemblance to the XL6 MPV too. However, no official word is out from the largest carmaker in the country. We will have to wait a bit longer to see what Maruti Suzuki plans to achieve with this vehicle. What are your thoughts on the matter?
