Is Maruti Suzuki planning to launch a 7-seater iteration of the Wagon R hatchback in India? Going by the current developments, it seems that the same is not going to happen anytime soon. The Indo-Japanese automaker believes that currently there is not enough demand for a compact MPV in India. The only player in the segment i.e. the Datsun Go Plus has not been able to garner an enthusiastic response from the buyer. That said, if in the near future, if Maruti Suzuki sees fit, it may launch the MPV iteration of the Wagon R in the Indian market. Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Launch Date
As mentioned before, we believe that the production of the 7-seater Wagon R will commence in the month of September this year. Going by recent media speculations, expect the car to launch on Indian soil by the end of this year itself or early 2019.
Furthermore, there have been a number of instances where the Suzuki Solio, the Wagon R based 7-seater MPV, was seen testing on India roads. Consequently indicating towards the launch in the near future.
That said, Maruti will first of all launch the next-generation iteration of the Wagon R hatchback. This is likely to happen before the debut of the 7-Seater version of this car.

Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Price In India
Currently, the 5-seater version of the Maruti Wagon R retails in-between the price range of INR 3.5 lakh to INR 5.5 Lakh.
Expect the prices of the 7-seater version to cost a premium of INR 50,000 to 60,000. With this, the prices are likely to fall in the range of INR 4 lakh to 6 lakh. As a result, this MPV will find its place in-between the Eco and the Ertiga in Maruti Suzuki’s model line-up.

Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Engine Specifications
Currently, there are no concrete details regarding the engine specifications of the Wagon R 7-seater. However, we can safely speculate that this car will get the same engines as its 5-seater sibling.
Hence, it will come only with a petrol engine at its disposal. This unit is going to be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder motor which produces 65 BHP along with 91 Nm of peak torque. The car will get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Maruti can also introduce the 5-speed AMT unit as well.

Maruti cars are always very frugal in nature. Since the 7-seater version of the Wagon R comes with the 1.0-litre, K-Series engine, it is bound to give a mileage of around 18 km/l.
However, with the MPV version slightly longer i is going to be heavier as well. Consequently, expect the mileage to go down a little bit.

Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Features
Since this vehicle is going to find its place in the budget MPV segment, do not expect a very expansive feature list. However, the top-spec version could get a decent amount of creature comforts. These are likely to include:

Just like its exteriors, the interiors of this MPV will take their inspiration from the hatchback. Hence, the car is likely to come with a dual-tone colour scheme of black and beige.
The seats are going to be well cushioned. There is going to be plenty of storage spaces. Rear passengers will get their own dedicated air-con vents. Since the 7-seater Wagon R is going to be a compact MPV, the rear seats will probably make sense for children only.
