The launch of the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is just around the corner. Though not confirmed, the debut of this compact hatchback’s third generation iteration is likely to take place on the 23rd of January this year. Ahead of its launch, as units start arriving at dealerships, a number of recent spy shots have already started surfacing on the internet. Thanks to these we are now well aware of the visual changes that this car is going to receive with this generation update.

In addition to losing weight, the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 has grown in its dimensions. It now measures 3.655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm height. This means that the car is now 55 mm longer, 130 mm wider and 25 mm shorter in comparison to the older version. Furthermore, it will offer more legroom on the inside thanks to a 35 mm longer wheelbase which now stands at 2,435 mm.

As mentioned before, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will get a new 1.2-litre petrol engine in addition to the existing 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. Te former is the same unit which also available on the Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. The 1.0-litre engine will retail only on the LXI, VXI and VXI AGS trims. While the 1.2-litre engine will do its duty on the VXI, VXI AGS, ZXI and ZXI AGS variants.

The 1.0-litre engine is capable of churning out 65 BHP of power along with 90 Nm of peak torque. The 1.2-litre engine is capable of producing 82 BHP of power along with 114 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT unit.
