Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan is working on future variant of Maruti Wagon R which will be an all new platform. This Wagon R, badged as Solio, is based on the New 2011 Maruti Suzuki Swift which is a longer and wider car compared to the Blue-Eyed-Boy Wagon R avatar launched in India in 2010. The car is codenamed YK8 and will feature 1.2 Litre K-series engine by Suzuki.
The new Wagon R 2012 will be 3750mm long, 1685mm wide and 1660mm in height. The wheelbase is also increased to 2430mm. Due to larger dimensions, the interior space will also be more compared to the existing Wagon R.
The specifications sound very impressive with 1.2 Litre MPFI Petrol Engine delivering a max power of about 90 BHP @ 6000 RPM and 118Nm Torque @ 4800 RPM. The car will have an automatic CVT transmission with a fuel average of about 24 KMPL.
The car may be launched exclusively in Japan and may not come to India in the same form, but we expect the next generation Indian Wagon R will also be developed using same platform and engine.
