The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been a resounding success. The only compact SUV from Maruti, the Brezza rivals the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. The Brezza will soon have another rival in the form of the Tata Nexon. The Nexon will launch in both petrol and Diesel formats, which should give it some advantage over the Diesel-only Brezza. However, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd seems to be planning to launch an AMT variant of the Brezza to minimize the damage from the launch of Nexon. It may be noted here that the Nexon is some months away before it gets an AMT automatic option. Also, the launch of the Maruti Vitara Brezza automatic model will help it find more takers during this year’s festive period.
As per the latest report that has been doing rounds on the web, the Vitara Brezza will even get a new petrol engine variant in the coming days. Even the petrol motor could offer a choice of an automatic transmission but in the form of a CVT. So, from the looks of it, the AMT will be restricted to the Diesel engine only. Currently, Maruti Suzuki manages to sell about 10,000 units of this compact SUV every month. Of course, the launch of the Nexon will have at least some impact on the sales figures. However, it sure looks like Maruti has already taken note of the situation and has been busy working on launching automatic transmission and petrol engine variant of the Brezza to minimize the damage.

Currently, the Vitara Brezza is available with only a Diesel engine option. This Diesel engine is the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet unit that powers at least half of all the Diesel cars in this price range. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It looks like the Brezza will now get the 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol motor that powers the Baleno RS. Here are all the details on the upcoming new Maruti Vitara Brezza automatic models.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Automatic Launch Date
Launch Date (expected) | October 2017 |
We are yet to get an official word on the launch date of the Brezza automatic models. However, it looks very likely that the same will launch during the fast approaching festive season. Akin to the current Diesel manual model, the upcoming AMT variant and the petrol engine-equipped models will take on rivals like the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra TUV300.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Automatic Prices
Minimum | Rs 8 Lakh |
Maximum | Rs 11 Lakh |
Of course, the AMT-equipped Diesel variant will be more expensive than the manual transmission models. Also, even the Petrol model, if it launches alongside the AMT variants of the Diesel model, will cost at least as much as the current Brezza. This is because the Boosterjet is an expensive engine and hence, there won’t be any possibility to launch the petrol Vitara at a lower price point. Expect prices of the Brezza AMT automatic variants to start at Rs 8 lakh and go all the way to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
