- Tata Nexon has a full 5-star safety rating at GNCAP
- On the other hand, Maruti Swift has often been criticised for below-par build
A video that we have here talks about a Maruti Swift hitting a Tata Nexon. Swift is one of the highest-selling hatchbacks in the country. It has been around for almost 2 decades now. Its popularity is rivalled by only a few. On the other hand, the Nexon gained popularity after claiming the title of the first Made-in-India vehicle to score a full 5-star safety rating at the GNCAP. However, things get interesting when these two hit each other in a recent mishap.

Maruti Swift and Tata Nexon Get Equally Damaged
The video comes from Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel. He regularly posts content on his channel around the importance of buying cars with high safety ratings. As per the information in the video, this incident took place in Rajasthan. The video explains that the driver of the Tata Nexon was travelling back from a meeting. Suddenly, a speeding Maruti Swift arrived on the single-lane road at high speed. Due to overspeeding, the driver of Swift lost control and ended up hitting the Nexon from the side.

The result is visible in the video clip. The entire front fascia of the Tata Nexon is damaged. This includes the front bumper, bonnet, grille, headlight, windshield, fender, side profile and the tyre came off as well. This signals how strong the impact would’ve been. Meanwhile, even the condition of the Maruti Swift is pretty much same. The front end including the bonnet, bumper, fender, headlight, etc. has been deformed completely.

NCAP Not the Last Word in Crash Safety
Unlike what was expected, both the cars faced pretty much the same amount of damage. This could be surprising to all those who have always followed NCAP safety rating blindly without bothering to check the intricacies of these testing procedures. We’ve time and again said that NCAP scores shouldn’t be treated as the last word in safety. While the Tata Nexon is surely safer than most of its rivals, it’s not bullet-proof. Also, NCAP tests are conducted at 64 mph, while many accidents take place at much higher speeds. Also, these test don’t take into account the impact caused a moving object ramming into the vehicle.
Hence, the high NCAP ratings don’t make any vehicle invincible. We request all our readers to respect traffic rules and avoid over-speeding at all costs. The latter continues to be the most common reason for accidents in our country. Be responsible drivers and adhere to traffic regulations.
