Maruti Swift might soon get a sportier offering in the guise of Swift Sport. The hot-hatch should make for a strong rival of the Hyundai i20 N Line
Maruti Swift Sport has been spied testing by ARAI in India. ARAI is the certification body that allots performance parameters to Indian cars including fuel economy. Swift is one of the highest-selling hatchbacks in the market for years. Swift Sport is the hot-hatch version that is quite popular in various international markets. The largest carmaker in the country might be thinking of introducing it in our market to challenge the likes of the Hyundai i20 N Line.

Maruti Swift Sport Spied
The spied images capture an uncamouflaged version of the hot hatch. The white coloured Swift has a tailgate that has Swift Sport written on it. Another distinctive and sporty element at the rear is the dual round exhaust tips finished in chrome on the bumper. There is a roof-mounted spoiler visible in the images too. However, the overall design of the Swift remains identical to the regular version sold in India. That is generally the case with the hot-hatch version of any car. There are a few elements on the outside, as well as on the inside to highlight that it is a special edition but the overall layout remains the same.

Specs
In the international model, the Swift Sport comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged direct-injection engine that outputs 140 PS and 230 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. There are tweaks to the suspension setup, steering wheel and some other bits to ensure dynamic handling characteristics. It would be interesting to see if Maruti brings this engine in the Swift Sport or the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that used to power the Baleno RS.

Either way, if Maruti decides to bring this sportier version of the Swift, it will be interesting to see how the potential customers receive it. With the 1.0-litre mill, Maruti could also try to undercut the i20 N Line to offer a great alternative to the buyers. But we will have to wait to see when Maruti announces the arrival of the Swift Sport officially. More details will be revealed then.
