Recent buzz in the Motown suggests that the launch of the much-talked-about Maruti Swift RS, the performance-oriented iteration of the Swift hatchback, is likely to happen sometime around the first quarter of the year 2019.
A recent report from Gaadiwaadi.com suggest that Maruti Suzuki might retail the Swift RS through its NEXA dealerships outlets instead of the regular ARENA dealerships from where it retails the standard Swift hatchback.
The most interesting thing to note here is that, in contradiction to the majority opinion, the RS iteration for the Maruti Swift is not going to be just a cosmetic makeover. The Maruti Swift RS, in lieu for the recently launched Tata Tiago JTP, will get a complete overhaul in terms of its engine specifications and even its suspension set-up.
We believe that Maruti Suzuki is likely to introduce the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged Boosterjet engine in the Swift RS that we see on the Baleno RS. This engine is capable of churning out 101 BHP of peak power along with 150 Nm of peak torque. The transmission responsibilities will be taken care off by a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In addition to the engine overhaul, expect the RS to feature slightly modified suspension set-up as well. The dampers could be hardened a bit to allow better cornering performance. In addition to this, though not confirmed, Maruti could also include rear disk brakes, just like it did with the Baleno RS.
To put things perspective, the standard Swift hatchback petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit capable of producing 82 BHP of power along with 114 Nm of peak torque.

The Maruti Swift RS retailing through Maruti NEXA dealerships will mean that the automaker is going to market it as a premium product. Based on the top-spec trim of this hatchback, it will be loaded right up-to-the-brim with all the features and creature comforts.
The launch of the Maruti Swift RS can be linked to the recent debut of the Tata Tiago JTP which is the performance oriented version of the Tiago which competes with the Swift in the compact hatchback segment.
