In the latest incident, a Maruti Swift rear-ends a Hero Splendor. Swift is among the most successful products in the Indian automobile market for decades now. Even today, its charm is palpable. The monthly sales of the Swift suggest that it is still a preferred choice of vehicle in this segment. It offers all the latest features, tech and a powerful engine to attract customers. However, it has never been a car with a high safety rating at the Global NCAP. That is one area where the largest carmaker in the country needs to work on. Let us take a look at the details of this latest case.

Maruti Swift Hits Hero Splendor
This incident was shared by Rushlane on Twitter. It captures a weird instance. As per the details of the post, a Swift ends up hitting the Splendor on the road from behind. However, the damage to the front section of the popular hatchback is quite shocking. The bumper, radiator grille, and bonnet have suffered damage. This incident has been reported from Attur, Salem in Tamil Nadu. Thankfully, no one was injured in this crash. On the other hand, there is hardly any evident impact on the motorcycle. However, we can’t question the build quality of the Swift from this incident directly.

Understandably, there is a lot of criticism due to this incident. To add to that, Swift has not scored well at the Global NCAP either. Therefore, it is easy to blame the build quality in every case. But that is simply not true. There are a lot of factors to consider while passing a judgement on such matters. For a car to be safe, it needs to have a crumple zone at the front. Also, the bumper and bonnet must be designed in such a way that they don’t hurt a pedestrian if it hits him/her. That is why companies can’t put heavy metal bumpers at the front. Therefore, the bumper getting deformed is not at all surprising.

What We Think
Since its beginning, Maruti Suzuki has been the largest car manufacturer in the country. The main reasons for this are its many dealerships and service centres, good fuel efficiency, lively engines, affordable upkeep, strong dependability, and appealing prices. However, most of Maruti’s cars haven’t done well in the Global NCAP safety tests. This is an important area for the company to work on, not only to address criticisms but also to ensure their customers’ safety. Hence, we must not express opinions on a car’s safety just by looking at pictures of a crash. So, viewers should be careful and not blindly trust these content creators.
