Fresh reports suggest that Maruti Swift and Dzire might be offered with a petrol-CNG option, in order to provide a low-cost alternative to the upcoming BS-6 petrol models.
Maruti Suzuki currently offers a variety of its cars equipped with factory-fitted CNG kits onboard. Maruti WagonR, Alto, Celerio and Ertiga are offered with petrol-CNG options.
A fresh report from Livemint states that Maruti Swift and Dzire might also be offered with CNG kits soon. Swift and Dzire are the four-wheeler manufacturer’s best selling models in India.
Soon, all the vehicles in India will be equipped with BS-6 engines. With the inclusion of a new BS-6 diesel engines engine, the prices of the models are set to increase, that too, by a considerable amount.

Reports say that BS-6 diesel variants might cost up to Rs 2.5 Lakhs more than the petrol variants. In order to provide an alternative to the expensive diesel cars, popular models like Maruti Swift and Dzire might be equipped with CNG.
The price gap between petrol and diesel cars will increase because the oil-burner cars will require a costlier exhaust system, for upgrading the powerplants.
As per the reports, Maruti Suzuki has requested their dealerships to bid for licences, required for setting up CNG-dispensing fuel stations. Maruti Suzuki plans to sell 2 Lakh CNG models by 2022.

To battle the growing costs because of the new emission norms, Maruti Suzuki has also adapted to the development of mild-hybrid and fully-hybrid powertrains. The emission norms require the upcoming models to be 30% more fuel efficient.
However, fully-hybrid versions of their regular models will get a bit pricey too. Because of the poor infrastructure and heavy taxation of electric engine parts, their costs are usually higher.
Maruti Suzuki is developing new hybrid technology with Toyota, for the local markets. Both the companies have entered into a partnership to sell rebadged products and share the platforms, engines and technologies.
