The CNG segment in our country is growing quite rapidly and these two are extremely popular products in this space
In this post, I am comparing the Maruti Swift CNG and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG in terms of prices, specs, features, design and more. Both these are volume churners in ICE guises for their respective brands. Swift is one of the highest-selling products in the country ever. We find it in its fourth-generation avatar at the moment. The main highlight of this model is its new 3-cylinder mild hybrid engine with impressive mileage. It continues to set benchmarks with insane fuel economy numbers. On the other hand, the Grand i10 Nios is a hot seller in this space and is a direct rival to the Swift. Let us compare these two thoroughly to help you make an informed decision.
Maruti Swift CNG vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG – Price Comparison
The Maruti Swift CNG is available in three variants – VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi. The prices range from Rs 8.20 lakh to Rs 9.20 lakh, ex-showroom. This offers a fair amount of variety for the potential customers. On the other hand, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG is offered in two versions – Magna and Sportz. These range from Rs 7.68 lakh and Rs 8.30 lakh, ex-showroom. In both these cases, the carmakers equip the mid-level trims with the CNG mills to keep the costs in check. In this case, the Grand i10 Nios CNG has the edge.

Maruti Swift CNG vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG – Specs and Mileage
Note that the CNG powertrain is available with naturally aspirated petrol engines in a bi-fuel avatar. That is true for both of these cars. The Swift CNG has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated mill with a bi-fuel option which generates a decent 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm of peak power and torque. With this engine, the Swift gets a sole 5-speed manual transmission option. The official fuel economy number is 32.85 km/kg. It has a 55-litre (water-filling capacity) CNG tank. This fuel economy is among the highest in the country. In fact, that is what the largest carmaker in the country attracts new customers with.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG has a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated bi-fuel (petrol + CNG) mill which belts out a decent 69 PS and 95.2 Nm of peak power and torque. Just like the Swift, even the i10 CNG gets a sole 5-speed manual gearbox. It gets a 60-litre (water equivalent) CNG tank and the official mileage figure is 27 km/kg. Note that the new Grand i10 Nios CNG gets the dual-cylinder technology which frees up a lot of usable space in the boot compartment. Therefore, the Swift CNG takes the cake in this segment. Still, there is not a huge difference for it to be a deal-breaker.

Design and Dimensions Comparison
In terms of the exterior, the new Maruti Swift CNG bears the latest design language from the Indo-Japanese car marque. This includes a sleek front fascia with new LED headlamps with integrated sleek LED DRLs. Also, there is a large grille section with a Suzuki logo on it. Down below, the black element elevates the sporty appearance of the bumper. One also gets fog lamps on the bonnet. Moving down the sides reveals elegant dual-tone alloy wheels and black side pillars along with black ORVMs. At the rear, the Swift gets LED taillamps on the extreme edges of the bootlid along with a sport bumper. All in all, the Maruti Swift CNG looks quite sporty and decent with a distinct road presence.
On the other hand, even the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG bears a modern appearance. This includes a flowing headlamp cluster with Y-shaped LED DRLs in place of the fog lamps. The curvy bonnet line meets the large radiator grille section which looks cool. On the sides, there are black side pillars and body-coloured ORVMs. I like the stylish alloy wheels and the faux roof rails. At the rear, the Grand i10 gets a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler and a connected LED taillamp. The bumper looks sporty with reflector lamps. All in all, it has a striking road presence. However, choosing between the two in terms of aesthetics can be subjective.

Our View
Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite tricky. The brand value of these two car companies is the biggest in India. Still, the Swift moniker holds an enormous power and attraction. It has been around for close to two decades. Also, it is the newer of the two. However, to get your hands on the Maruti Swift CNG, you need to shell out more than the other rival in this post. Hence, that is something you must consider. On the other hand, even the Grand i10 is an established name in India. Add to that, tons of modern-day amenities and a slightly more premium in-cabin experience at a lower cost. People on a strict budget can go for the i10. On the contrary, if you can spend more and are enamoured by the Swift moniker, you can’t go wrong with it either. In the end, it is a matter of preference.
