Maruti Suzuki’s latest cross MPV based on the Ertiga will be launched in India on August 21. Its called the XL6 and here’s everything you need to know about this new MPV.
Maruti Suzuki is readying a new Ertiga-based MPV for the Indian market and while it may be based on the Ertiga, it sure does stand out individually. This Ertiga Cross as it was known before has been named as the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and we have already reported about the styling and interior design with several spy shots of this new MPV. Its scheduled to be launched on August 21st and here’s everything you need to know about this new MPV.
Exterior Styling
It only borrows the doors and the tailgate from the regular Ertiga and the rest of the car has been completely redesigned. It gets an all-new face and it particularly looks very attractive with a more upright nose with a flatter hood. The grille has been redesigned as well and now features two chrome strips running through it which continue into the headlamps cluster as the DRLs. The headlamps unit itself has been redesigned and the car also gets body claddings all around with silver skid plates on the front and rear bumper. Quite literally an Ertiga Cross, it will also have better ground clearance along with roof rails.
Interior Design
The interior layout is similar to the regular Ertiga but while the regular Ertiga comes with beige interiors, with the higher trims getting a faux wood inlay, the XL6 will have an all-black theme. The biggest highlight of the XL6’s interiors would be the two captain seats in the second row instead of the bench seat on the Ertiga. The Maruti XL6 is also expected to sport some premium upholstery to help further differentiate it from the Ertiga.
Features and Equipment
While the equipment list of the XL6 has not been revealed yet, the XL6 is expected to get Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment unit in a 7.0-inch touchscreen display and its also Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. The top-spec variant is also expected to get automatic climate control, automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control and height adjust for the driver’s seat. As for the safety equipment, it will come with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a speed warning system and seatbelt reminders for the driver and co-driver. A reverse parking camera can be expected on the top-end trim as well.
Powertrain Options
The Maruti Suzuki XL6 will be powered by a BS6-compliant, 1.5-litre petrol engine will come with Smart Hybrid fuel-saving tech. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and most likely a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as well. Although the regular Ertiga comes with two diesel engines, the XL6 is not likely to get any diesel engine. It will be petrol powered only. You can expect a minor fall in performance and fuel efficiency as the XL6 will certainly weigh more than the Ertiga.

Pricing and Competition
The Maruti XL6 will be sold the Nexa outlets and given the additions over the regular Ertiga, it is expected to be priced about Rs. 50,000-75,000 more than the Ertiga. The petrol Ertiga is currently priced at Rs. 7.45-9.57 lakh, ex-showroom. The Maruti XL6 however does not have a direct competitor in the market. In terms of pricing, it will rival the likes of the recently launched Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta.
