The Maruti Suzuki XL6 had to have sufficient differentiation from the Ertiga to make it a successful product and that they have achieved as the XL6 already has 2,000 bookings.
Maruti Suzuki launched the new XL6 in India yesterday at a starting price of Rs. 9.79 lakh ex-showroom. The XL6 is basically a premium MPV based on the Heartect platform and shares its underpinnings with the Ertiga. Maruti has spent about Rs. 100 crores in the development of the XL6 and they had to bring in significant product differentiation from the Ertiga. Well, Maruti Suzuki seems to have succeeded at that as they have already received over 2,000 bookings for the XL6.
This is despite the fact that the XL6 is just being offered with one petrol engine. There is no diesel engine on offer at the moment but Maruti has said that they might introduce a diesel engine in the XL6 if there’s sufficient demand for one. Maruti Suzuki has taken great effort in making sure that the XL6 looks and feels different from the Ertiga. The face is completely new and the captain seats on the interiors with a little more upmarket finish give the cabin the necessary lift.
It only borrows the doors and the tailgate from the regular Ertiga and the rest of the car has been completely redesigned. The face looks very attractive with a more upright nose with a flatter hood. The grille has been redesigned as well and now features two chrome strips running through it which continue into the headlamps cluster as the DRLs. The headlamps unit itself has been redesigned and the car also gets body claddings all around with silver skid plates on the front and rear bumper. It also gets better ground clearance along with roof rails.

The interior layout is similar to the regular Ertiga but while the regular Ertiga comes with beige interiors, with the higher trims getting a faux wood inlay, the XL6 gets an all-black theme. The biggest highlight of the XL6’s interiors would be the two captain seats in the second row instead of the bench seat on the Ertiga. Also, even the third row seats come with reclining function. As for other features, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 gets leather upholstery, leather-wrapped fat-bottomed steering wheel, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and voice command, cruise control, Reverse parking camera, Second row manually adjustable AC and many more.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is powered by a sole petrol engine which develops 104 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed Automatic. As with all new Maruti cars, the XL6 is already BS-VI compliant. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 has already garnered a good number of bookings for itself and Maruti has priced it very competitively right in the sweet spot in the segment. The Xl6 goes against the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy.
