Maruti Vitara Brezza with the BS-6 Petrol Engine will be launched in the early months of 2020. The diesel engine will be discontinued next year.
After Maruti Suzuki recently announced their plan to phase out all their diesel engines, their popular diesel only cars had to be replaced by a petrol engine. Among them is the very popular Vitara Brezza which currently sells with a 1.3L DDiS diesel engine.
Our sources close to the company have said that the Vitara Brezza will be launched with a new petrol engine in the early half of 2020 with the model likely to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. That will give sufficient time to Maruti Suzuki to phase out their diesel engines and also to the customers who would want to lay their hands on the diesel-powered version.
The Vitara Brezza is expected to be powered by the new 1.5 Litre petrol engine. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol is also expected to be slightly cheaper than its diesel counterpart and that should suffice customers for the loss in efficiency from the diesel engine.

The engine specifications will be the same that come on Ciaz and Ertiga. The 1.5 Litre SHVS engine produces 107 BHP and 138 NM of torque. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT. The micro-hybrid technology will be offered on the petrol engine.
The recently launched Hyundai Venue is being offered with two petrol engines and every other competitor in this segment has at least one petrol engine option. It was only apt that Maruti Suzuki too introduced the Vitara Brezza with a petrol engine and that has come about just at the right time.
Maruti Suzuki is also likely to entirely shift the production of the Vitara Brezza to Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s plant in Karnataka. This move comes as a part of their new joint-venture and is aimed at freeing-up production lines at Maruti’s Haryana plants and reducing waiting periods of several of its cars.

The Vitara Brezza averages sales of over 13,000 a month and accounts for nearly 50% of the market share for the compact SUV segment. It has been quite popular and it remains to be seen how the petrol-powered Vitara Brezza will fare in the market.
