Maruti Suzuki which is largest passenger car seller in India is going to launch one of the most competitive diesel engine sedan. Yes, its the Maruti SX4 Diesel Engine variant. The Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel Model will be fitted with a DDiS family engine. Considering the existing petrol lineup with 100 BHP engine, its unlikely to get the 1.3 Litre Diesel which will be a smaller capacity in terms of power. To keep the car rocking, it will come with a 1.6 Litre DDiS CRDI Diesel Engine with a max power output of nearly 115 BHP churning out an incredible 200 Nm of torque.
Maruti is already selling a good number of Maruti SX4 Sedan in India and it DDiS Diesel engine cars like Maruti Suzuki Ritz Diesel, Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel and Maruti Swift Dzire Diesel are already hot selling cars from Maruti’s stable. A combination of SX4 with a DDiS Diesel will be a real deadly one and a real competition to the other brands. Maruti will bring out this Diesel model of SX4 in first half of year 2011, maybe in first quarter of 2011 itself.
Difference Between Maruti SX4 Diesel And Maruti SX4 Petrol
There is no structural changes expected in the SX4 Diesel version and SX4 Petrol version however a few cosmetic changes can not be ruled out as yet. Maruti may give it a slightly different grille design or some other cosmetic changes to make it look distinct from the SX4 Petrol. These kind of changes are not new, Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel also had minor cosmetic changes to make it looks different compared to the Toyota Corolla Altis Petrol engine version.
On the upside, the mileage of the Diesel variant will be higher as compared to the petrol variant because of the fundamental technology differences (compression ratio difference) between an MPFI Petrol and CRDI Diesel Engine.
Price Of Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel
The price is expected to be around Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 higher compared to the petrol variant. We expect the pricing will be pretty competitive and approx Ex-Showroom price in Delhi should be around Rs. 8.5 Lakhs for a manual transmission variant. Its not clear as yet whether an Automatic transmission model will be launched or not, but considering the competition, its very likely that it will be there which may come at a higher price offering or around Rs. 9.5 Lakhs which is a very competitive price for a Diesel Automatic Sedan.
