Suzuki Netherlands has come up with an adventurous iteration of our beloved hatchback, which can take you off-road
In this post, we take a look at the Maruti Suzuki Swift AWD. Swift is one of the most successful hatchbacks in the country. It has been around for 2 decades in India. It even sells in many international markets around the globe. At present, it is sold in its 4th-generation avatar in India. Note that some international markets have been selling the AWD iteration of the Swift for a long time. However, we never really got it in India. This time around, Suzuki Netherlands has come up with a new Swift AllGrip FX. Here are the details.
Maruti Suzuki Swift AWD
Remember that this Swift is not a production model, but a one-off car. It comes with a few design tweaks on the outside, some customizations on the inside and a few mechanical enhancements to make it more capable off-road. The external highlights include a Thule luggage rack, a Tralert LED light bar on the front bumper, massive 16-inch alloy wheels with 195-section Michelin CrossClimate 2 tyres and an increased ground clearance by 32 mm in comparison to the stock. All these elements make it look aggressive.
Even though the modifications to the exterior are significant, they are not as prevalent on the inside. The first thing one notices as soon as one steps inside the cabin is the leather seats. They get a dual-tone colour theme. In addition, there is a domestic cool box and rubber mats. Apart from these, there is no addition of any new features. Similarly, it continues to draw power from the stock 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol mill, which is good for 82 PS and 112 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. This mill pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD system sends power to those wheels where it detects wheel slip.
My View
While the Suzuki Swift Sport iteration with a turbo petrol mill has been quite popular in many markets abroad for years now, this latest off-road spec iteration is something new. Perhaps, the Japanese car marque is trying to leverage the popularity of the Swift moniker to entice new buyers. Still, it won’t be a production spec version and will most likely never make it to India due to cost concerns. Nevertheless, this refreshing iteration of the Swift is a treat for the Swift fans.
