Now comparing the engines of the S-Presso and the Kwid, they both are powered by the same 1.0-Liter, three cylinder engines which put out similar power and torque figures in both the cars. They both have 68 bhp and 90 Nm of torque. There’s nothing separating them on that front though. Also, both cars come mated to a either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The Alto also has the option of a smaller 800 cc engine.
Where there is some differentiation on the engines is with their fuel efficiency. The Alto K10 is a much lighter car than the S-Presso and because of that it gives marginally better fuel economy than the S-Presso. On the other hand, the reason why the S-Presso is a little down on fuel efficiency from the Kwid is because its BS-VI complaint while the Alto K10 still gets a BS-IV compliant engine.
Exterior Design
The two cars have quite a different approach here. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has been designed to look like an SUV, only much smaller. The company literally calls it a ‘micro-SUV’. The design is very new from Maruti and it gets a tall nose with a flat hood for an upright stance. The bumpers are big and chunky and there’s good amount of body cladding on the sides and the rear. The grille design is all-new and gets some chrome inserts with LED DRLs on the bumpers. The rear end seems much inspired from the Brezza and has quite a neat look except for the pronounced body claddings.
The Alto K10 on the other hand has a much conventional hatchback design . It has good proportions and although a small car, its design is quite likeable for its target audience. That said, the Alto K10 hasn’t received any update for a long time now and the design has started to show its age. It does not have any modern bits and apart from its natural aesthetics, there’s nothing special about the design.

Interior Features
Here again, the two cars have a very different approach. The S-Presso has a very funky interior with its new dashboard layout. The circular motifs on the dashboard seems to inspired from Mini and even the instrument cluster is located on the center of the dashboard. The body colored inserts give it a young feel and the infotainment system has been well put on the dashboard. However, the center mounted instrument console might not work for many.
Now this is where the Alto K10 disappoints quite a bit. This being an old car shows its age much more on the inside than on the outside. There’s no digital infotainment screen, no steering wheel mounted controls, nothing quite fancy anywhere. It gets a completely analog dashboard which feels quite out dated in these times. Still, the dual-tone theme of the interiors and the piano black inserts on the dashboard do lift the feel of the cabin a little.

Model | Maruti Suzuki S-Presso | Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 |

The top-spec Alto K10 with the AMT gearbox finishes off at Rs. 4.39 lakhs, where as by paying about Rs. 50,000 more you can get a car which is brand new, looks quite interesting and packs in lots more features. The Alto K10 has consistently been Maruti’s best selling car but nnow things could just change in favour of the S-Presso.
