The largest car marque in the country just rolled out the ten-millionth (1 Crore) car from the Manesar plant
Maruti Suzuki has reached a rather impressive milestone of producing a whopping 10 million (1 Crore) cars at its Manesar plant since commencing operations in 2006. This amounts to 1 car per minutes for 18 years. At this plant, cars like the Brezza, Ertiga, Dzire, S-Presso, Celerio, Ciaz and WagonR are manufactured. All these are among the highest-selling products in the country. Most of them are segment leaders by a huge margin. Hence, it won’t be wrong to say that this plant is key to contributing a huge chunk to the overall sales for the Indo-Japanese car marque. Let us take a look at the details here.
Maruti Suzuki Sells 10 million (1 Crore) Cars at Manesar Plant
This is a 600-acre facility which even makes cars for export to many international markets. These include countries in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and other Asian countries. In total, Maruti Suzuki has produced a jaw-dropping 31.1 million (3.11 Crore) vehicles in India. Speaking on this occasion, the Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Hisashi Takeuchi, said, “Crossing the 1 crore cumulative production mark at our Manesar facility is a testament to India’s manufacturing capability and our commitment to the larger national goal of ‘Make in India’.”
Clearly, he is highlighting India’s prowess as a manufacturing powerhouse. In fact, that is the reason why many other international carmakers have also selected India as their base to flood many international markets with their products. Geographically, India is situated at the centre, particularly to serve regions on either side of the country including Australia, South-East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America. Going forward, things are only looking positive for India’s automobile manufacturing.
My View
MSIL produces around 2.3 million (23 lakh) cars per annum. The growth has been consistent despite the huge issue in the last few years pertaining to lockdown and global supply chain disruption, particularly with the semiconductor shortage. However, the industry has bounced back strongly and the sales numbers have been positive. We are currently in the festive season which yields a surge in sales and demand. Let us keep an eye out for more such success stories.
