Maruti has finally showcased the much-awaited Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020. The SUV will come in India as a replacement for Maruti Gypsy.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny might be one of the most anticipated cars to come to India. Every year, we hear the rumour and reports of it coming to the Indian market, but now Maruti has finally showcased it at the Auto Expo 2020.
Jimny is amongst the most popular cars by Maruti Suzuki, around the world. Launched as the third generation of Gypsy, it is a small but capable off-roader. In the global markets, the waiting period for it went as high up to a year.
The SUV is built on a body-on-frame construction and is very lightweight. Jimny is just 3.65 metres long, nearly equivalent to the WagonR. These parameters make it a great machine for hardcore off-roading. Its Indian predecessor, Gypsy also had the same qualities.

The showcased Maruti Suzuki Jimny gets a 1.5 Litre petrol engine. FYI, the SUV is just showcased and Maruti is not planning to launch it anytime soon. Maruti has bought it in for the customer feedback and on the basis of that, there might be a 5-door version of it coming.
This engine is the same that we get on Ciaz, Ertiga and Brezza Petrol. On the Jimny, the motor produces 102 BHP, paired with a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. In the Japanese market, it gets a 660cc turbo-petrol engine to fit in the KEI car regulations.
Features for off-roading might include Rear Differential locking or a low gear transfer case. Other convenience features include a touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio controls, alloy wheels and more.
