The Maruti Suzuki Ignis aims at attracting millennials as its potential customers as its offers funky looks, a feature loaded cabin and a peppy engine.
Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the realm of funky and fun to drive cars saw them launching the Ignis compact mini hatchback in India last year. With its unique appearance, the Ignis was aimed at the millennial population of India which wants something different from others and the usual breed of four-wheelers. With a funky design and a feature loaded cabin along with a peppy set of engines, the Ignis has soon a strong player for Maruti in India. But thanks to high pricing, it soon started to see the flack and now, with low sales, the Indo-Japanese automaker had to discontinue the diesel iteration of the vehicle altogether. Here is all that you need to know about this compact mini.

While many believe the Ignis has replaced the Ritz in Maruti’s product portfolio, that is not exactly the case. This hatchback, while being dimensionally similar to the Ritz, is much different. For starters, you get a more premium cabin with more features and better materials. And then, there’s the definite crossover appeal due to several SUV-ish elements and the stance. Besides, it is on sale exclusively through Nexa dealerships and not available at the regular Maruti Suzuki. This is because the Ignis aims to attract buyers looking for a premium product.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Review – Exterior Design Review
The Ignis doesn’t look bland by any stretch of the imagination. Its large wheels are pushed to the very corners, which give it a sporty stance. We also like some unique design features such as the ‘sunglass-clad’ front fascia, helmet-like roof and the vents on the C-Pillar. Styling cues seen on the Ignis have been inspired from multiple Suzuki models of the past. Bits like the clamshell bonnet, black A and B pillars, headlamps, C-pillar slits, all have taken inspiration from older Suzuki cars.

Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is very different from any other product that is or has been on sale in India till now. It’s tall, the SUV-like stance should appeal to the SUV-crazed Indian car buyers.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior Review
Much like the exterior, the interior of the Maruti Ignis features some interesting design elements as well. Unlike every other Maruti product on sale right now, the steering wheel design is new. The centrally mounted touchscreen unit doesn’t sit flush with the rectangular AC vents on either side. The cabin is feature rich and the top end variants get a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, colour MID, climate control, electric adjust and fold for the ORVMs and more. The image here shows body colour highlights as well, which will be on offer.
