In addition to the 2019 WagonR, Maruti Suzuki is going to launch three other small cars in India with the next two years.
The third generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR is all set to launch in India on the 23rd of January this year. It comes with an all-new design, improved cabin along with a significant upgrade in terms of its equipment list. The launch will not only mark the beginning of a new chapter for the hatchback but for the manufacturer as well. We say that because, after the launch of new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki is has lined up three new small cars which it is going to debut within the next one and a half years time.

Maruti Suzuki has already revamped majority of its portfolio starting with a top-to-bottom approach. With the debut of the 2019 WagonR, the next product in line is going to be the Celerio. A report published in Economic Times states that the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio is going to launch in India within a year’s time. With this, we can expect the same to make its debut either before or during next year’s auto expo event.

We will not have to wait for a year’s time though to see a new small car from Maruti Suzuki after the launch of the 2019 WagonR. By this year’s festive season, the Indo-Japanese automaker is going to launch an all-new Micro-SUV. So far being referred to as the Y1K, this vehicle will be based on the Future Concept S which we saw at the 2018 Auto Expo. There have been speculations that Maruti might decide to give then car the famous ‘Zen’ nameplate and hence bring back the moniker to its portfolio.

Details pertaining to the engine specifications of the Maruti Suzuki Y1K are quite scarce. However, we do know that this vehicle is going to find its place below the Vitara Brezza in the automaker’s portfolio. Its primary competition will include the Mahindra KUV100 and Tata’s upcoming Micro-SUV, the Hornbill. With this, expect the same to attract a price tag of INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh.

In addition to these, another new small car to join the fleet of Maruti Suzuki will be a compact all-electric vehicle set to make its debut by 2020. The automaker has already commenced testing these vehicles on Indian roads. The interesting thing to note here is that the testing is being done using the body shells of the Japanese spec WagonR. Whether the automaker decides to launch what essentially is going to be its first electric car based on the WagonR remains to be seen.
