As the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gets closer, more details of one of the most awaited cars is trickling in faster. It is a possibility that Maruti may slot the Ciaz above the now discontinued SX4, you can see from the spy shots that the company has worked hard to make the Ciaz look and feel very premium. It is a possibility that the Ciaz will be priced between Rs. 9 Lakh to 13 Lakh, slotting in between two segments.
Powertrain options could include the familiar 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit used on the Ertiga and the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel mated to a manual transmission. Though it is sure that these engines will be able to give the Ciaz decent performance charactristics, bigger engines could have helped considering the segment they are targeting. Maruti may also offer automatic transmission option, most probably only on the petrol variants. An AMT may not be offered as Maruti wants to maintain the premiumness of the car.
The production of the Ciaz is under full swing, Maruti wants to have enough units of the car ready to be dispatched to reduce waiting times and retain more customers in the process.

Maruti Suzuki has been hard at work readying the Ciaz sedan for the Indian market and the car has already started rolling off the assembly line at the company’s Manesar facility. Maruti is banking heavily on the the Ciaz to revive it’s fortunes in the mid-size sedan segment especially since the SX4 hasn’t been able to keep pace with it’s competitors. We have the latest update on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz variants and features along with spy shots of the production ready vehicle from the Manesar facility.
Price
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is expected to be priced competitively with estimated prices in the range of Rs. 9 Lakh to Rs. 13 Lakh. The petrol variants are expected to be cheaper by around Rs. 85,000 compared to similarly specced diesel variants. However, we’ll have to wait for the official launch for a detailed price list.
Design
The Ciaz is a smart looking car since it has been built as a sedan from the ground up. It looks almost exactly the same as the Suzuki Alivio sedan spied in China a few months back with a barely noticeable difference in the chrome detailing on the rear bumper which probably is variant specific. It looks sharper and leaner and better proportioned than it’s predecessor the SX4, which is a very good thing as this design will surely appeal to a larger audience. The most interesting bit about the design has to be the rear end which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Honda City which will be one of it’s fiercest rivals in our market.
As expected the interiors have a dual tone theme with chrome inserts which will, again, be variant specific. The designers seem to have done a pretty good job in giving them a very upmarket feel, at least in terms of looks. We’ll have to wait till the actual launch of the vehicle to pass judgement on the quality of the materials used and the minor design details on specific Marutiz Suzuki Ciaz variants.
Variants
Details about the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz variants and features offered are a little sketchy but reports suggest that there will be three variants on offer for both the diesel as well as the petrol models
- Vxi/Vdi : Projector headlamps, rear AC vents, driver arm rest, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, an integrated music system and a dual tone interior
- Vxi+/Vdi+ : In addition to the features offered on the entry level Vxi/Vdi trim this mid level trim will offer steering mounted audio controls, reverse parking sensors, ABS, height adjustable driver’s seat and fog lights.
- Zxi/Zdi : Adding to the features mentioned above buyers will get 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic AC, dual airbags, engine starter button, automatic day/night rear view mirror and a 5-inch infotainment system.

- Pearl Metallic Arctic White (As seen in the first photo)
- Midnight Black (Seen in the photo below)
- Silky Silver
- Glistening Grey
- Clear Beige
- Chocolate Brown (As seen in the second photo)
- Fire Brick Red
Launch
The Maruti Ciaz is expected to be launched somewhere in September 2014 with dealers accepting booking by end-August. When launched, the Ciaz will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, VW Vento, Fiat Linea and the Sunny and Scala twins.
From the looks of it, the Ciaz has all the ingredients to make it a success in the Indian market if it is priced right that is. We’ll have to wait a bit more for details about the engines and a full comprehensive list of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz variants and features which should be available soon as soon as end-August 2014.
