In a development that is sure to disappoint many prospective car buyers, it has emerged that Maruti Suzuki, the country’s most popular car maker and seller of high selling models like the Alto 800, the WagonR and the Dzire, has decided to increase the prices of almost all its models by up to INR 9000. The latest Maruti Suzuki cars price hike affects the prices of all Maruti Suzuki cars except the recently launched S-Cross premium crossover. It is being said that the latest Maruti Suzuki cars price hike accommodates “changes in dealer margin and a minor calibration in prices”. It maybe noted that Maruti Suzuki has become the second mainstream car manufacturer in India, first being arch rival Hyundai India, to announce a price hike.

It is worth a mention here that even Hyundai India excluded the recently launched Creta SUV from its latest price revision. Hyundai has said that its recent price hike was “necessitated by increase of input costs. We have been absorbing most of the costs but now we are constrained to consider the price increase in these challenging market environment”.
The Hyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross are based on a hatchback platform and aim to cash in on the increased demand for SUVs/crossovers in India. Both these cars take on some established rivals such as the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Fiat Avventura.
