Maruti Suzuki Baleno becomes the first model from the manufacturer to get BS-6 compliant. It also receives a new Smart-Hybrid engine onboard.
Maruti Suzuki rolls out its premium hatchback, Baleno with a new engine onboard. The new 1.2 Litre DUALJET VVT petrol engine is now available on the hatchback, alongside the existing 1.2 Litre VVT motor.
Not only that, but the new engine is BS-6 compliant. The first one from the manufacturer. Also, it is one of the very first mass-market models to be equipped with the compliant engine.
The new engine is available with the Smart-Hybrid technology, that comes on Ertiga and Ciaz. However, only Delta and Zeta variants with manual transmission get the new unit.

With the inclusion of BS-6 engines onboard, the prices of all the variants have been hiked. Here is the complete price list:

The Delta and Zeta with the Smart-Hybrid engine are costlier by Rs 90,000 than the existing engine variant.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno with the new engine claims to offer mileage of 23.87 kmpl. The SHVS technology gets torque assist function, idle start-stop function and Brake energy regeneration function.
The engine specifications of the 1.2 Litre DUALJET VVT are currently unknown. A 5-speed manual gearbox is only offered. Maruti has tuned this engine for more precise fuel-injection control.
The existing 1.2 Litre VVT engine produces 82 BHP and 115 Nm of torque. It is offered with an option of 5-speed MT with a CVT gearbox.

Reportedly, the diesel variants of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno might be discontinued post-BS-6 engines. The 1.3 Litre DDiS engine is sure to be stopped after April 2020. The new Ciaz is the only model without the old diesel engine.
