Maruti’s upcoming offering, the S-Presso micro-SUV is said to use the lightweight HEARTECT platform which is lighter and more reinforced.
We have been bringing you several details about Maruti’s upcoming hatchback, the S-Presso over the past few days and now, we have come to know that the S-Presso will be based on Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform, which essentially is a very lightweight platform and the S-Presso will soon be one of the lightest cars available in India.
The S-Presso is the 7th car (following the Ignis, Baleno, Swift, Ertiga, Dzire and the WagonR) to be based on the Heartect platform. This platform comes with reinforced rigidity that will not only help it meet the latest crash test norms but also contributes to its lightness.
The base variant of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso weighs just 726 kg. That is marginally lighter than the base Alto 800 but a significant 43 kgs lighter than the base Alto K10. The top-spec variant of the S-Presso weighs 763 kg, still 21 kgs lighter than the Alto K10 VXi. The AMT equipped top-spec S-Presso weighs just 4 kgs more. However, the S-Presso is heavier than its key rival, the Renault Kwid, which in its base spec weighs a mere 699 kg.
As for the dimensions of the S-Presso, it measures 3,565mm in length, 20 mm longer than the Alto K10 but 114 mm shorter than the Kwid. Shorter length also leads to a shorter wheelbase for the S-Presso. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has a wheelbase of 2380mm which is 42 mm shorter than that of the Kwid. It also measures narrower than the Kwid by 59 mm. The only dimension where the S-Presso is larger than the Kwid is in its height as it measures 86 mm taller than the Kwid.

ABS, a driver-side airbag, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminders, a digital speedometer and a speed alert system will be standard across the range. However, the front passenger airbag will be standard on the top-spec VXi+ and optional on all other variants.
