The Maruti S-Presso managed to score a decent 3 stars on the GNCAP test under the Safer Cars For Africa initiative. It must be noted that the GNCAP had previously tested the S-Presso and assigned 0 stars because, at the time, the micro SUV came with just 1 airbag. However, after the change in mandate, every car in India must have at least two airbags. The S-Presso tested this time had 2 airbags as standard which is the reason for this new and better rating.

In terms of child protection, the seatbelt was not able to prevent excessive head excursion during an impact for the 3-year-old child. This results in poor protection for the head and weak protection for the chest. With the adult seatbelt, there was good protection for the head and poor protection for the chest in the case of the 1.5-year-old child. The rear seats don’t have a 3-point seatbelt for the middle passenger. All these factors result in a 3-star rating for adults and a 2-star rating for child occupants.
