While Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has a slew of new launches in the coming times, a Maruti S-Presso-based SUV is definitely not on the cards anytime in the coming future
Founded more than 30 years ago now, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, previously known as Maruti Udyog Ltd, has been the undisputed leader of the Indian car market for many years now. In fact, its popularity is so high that every second car that is sold in the country comes from the house of MSIL. Still, however, Maruti isn’t someone to rest on its laurels and will be coming up with a slew of new launches in the coming months. One of these is expected to be a compact SUV based on the Maruti S-Presso. Certain spy images that surfaced internet recently have made people believe that the carmaker is indeed working on a product based on the A2-segment hatchback. However, the same is not the case. Here, in this post, we debunk this speculation.
The fact that the spy images of the Maruti S-Presso-based compact SUV were uploaded by Bimble Designs on their Instagram page alone speaks volume of the authenticity of these pics. Instead, this year, it could be seen offering a compact SUV in collaboration with Toyota to lock horns with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Not just this, the company is even planning to come up with a 5-door version of the internationally successful Jimny mini off-roader. An SUV based on the S-Presso, however, is certainly not on the cards anytime soon.
The Maruti S-Presso is currently on sale in a price range of Rs 3.85 lakh to Rs 5.56 lakh. It locks horns with the Renault Kwid as well as the Datsun redi-GO, and goes on to become a logical successor of the Alto K10. It’s powered by a 1.0-litre K-Series three-cylinder engine that belts out a maximum power of 59.5PS and a peak torque of
