Maruti S-Cross Petrol offers the best mileage in its class. Here’s a brief mileage comparison with Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Maruti has just launched the new S-Cross petrol in India, with prices starting at Rs 8.39 Lakhs going up to Rs 12.15 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). Ditching the 1.3 Litre MJD diesel engine due to the emission norms, the BS6 S-Cross gets a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The bookings commenced a couple of weeks ago and we expect the deliveries to commence in a week or two.
Based on the dimensions, Maruti S-Cross petrol goes against the likes of Jeep Compass, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks. However, all four of them are more premium and offer a lot more features. So, technically, that puts the S-Cross in direct comparison with the Renault Duster, which is another one of the segment. Taking all of these SUVs into consideration, the S-Cross petrol now offers the best in class mileage.
S-Cross | Creta | Seltos | Duster | Kicks | Compass | |
Mileage | 18.55 kmpl | 16.8 kmpl | 16.5 kmpl | 16 kmpl | 15.8 kmpl | 16 kmpl |

As you can see, Maruti S-Cross offers a class leading figure of 18.55 kmpl, which is the same for both manual and AT variants. Creta is the second in this list, with its petrol variants offer a claimed mileage of 16.8 kmpl. The lowest in the class is offered by Kicks, which gives just 15.8 kmpl, claimed. So, if you want a petrol SUV in the 10-15 Lakhs range, you can look at the S-Cross. That’s only if features don’t matter.
In terms of dimensions, all of them are between 4300mm to 4400mm long. For those who want to buy a fully loaded SUV under 13 Lakhs, can go for Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks or Maruti S-Cross. Those who wish to go beyond that budget can look at the Creta and Seltos. And, if someone is ready to shell out over 20 Lakhs, then you can opt for the Jeep Compass, which actually is the smallest car in its price range.
S-Cross gets a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine that produces 104 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. It has the least power figures and that’s why, its high on fuel efficiency. Features onboard include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlamps, cruise control, dual airbags, rear parking sensors and rear parking camera.
