Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s largest selling car manufacturer, is about to launch the 2017 S-Cross facelift in India. The new Maruti S Cross 2017 launch date should fall next month and many Next dealerships have started registering pre-bookings for a nominal amount of Rs 11,000. Prices should start at roughly Rs 7.50 lakh. The upcoming facelift carries a handful of styling updates that make the car looks fresher and hence, more appealing. The new model should help the crossover find more customers.

The company goes on to claim that the new 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift is not only bolder, but also more efficient than the pre-facelift model. The front-end gets a bolder grille along with updated LED headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). Other than this, the bumper is new, and so are the taillamps and the hood. All of these minor styling changes get along pretty well to give the S Cross a much more modern look. We feel that the bolder, more aggressive model will be able to find more takers than the existing car.

Even the interior will get some changes. The Maruti S Cross 2017 will come with a new upholstery. It will also get better quality plastics. It’s likely that the new model will have a soft-touch dashboard pad. The car will continue to offer the excellent SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The dashboard will house a revised instrument cluster with a MID (multi information display). Rumours abound that Maruti might even offer a panoramic sunroof on the top-end trim of the new S-Cross.
Currently, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross comes with two engine options- 1.3-litre DDiS200 with a maximum power of 89 BHP and a peak torque of 200 Nm, and 1.6-litre DDiS320 with a maximum power of 118 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The revised version that will launch in coming days will offer just the smaller of these two engines. However, chances are that the engine will offer SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System) mild-hybrid system. This technology is already available on the Ciaz and the Ertiga MPV.
The Maruti S-Cross made it to India in 2015. Marketed as a premium crossover, the current flagship from the popular car maker became the first car to go on sale through the NEXA premium dealerships. While the S-Cross isn’t exactly a dud on the sales charts, the car has pretty much failed to meet the expectations of the company. Hence, it will no come in a more modern form to try and attract buyers in this segment. The 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift made its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The facelift was even put on display at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show. The car will now finally launch in India. Akin to the pre-facelift model, even the 2017 S Cross will be sold through Nexa dealerships.
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Launch Date
Launch Date (expected) | October 2017 |
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) hasn’t yet made an official announcement about the launch od the S Cross 2017. However, we are pretty sure that the launch date will fall in October this year. We will take a test drive of the updated model at a media event later this month, which is hint enough that the S-Cross facelift is about to enter the market. The mid-life facelift of the crossover made its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October last year. It was then put on display at the Sao Paulo Auto Show. The manufacturer has been pretty quick with bringing the update to India.
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Price in India
Minimum | Rs. 8.50 Lakh |
Maximum | Rs. 11 Lakh |
The existing S-Cross is on sale in a price range of Rs 7.94 lakh to Rs 11.66 lakh (for the DDiS 320 Alpha variant). The DDiS 320 engine is imported into the country, which leads to a considerably higher cost than the locally manufactured DDiS 200. However, even though the updated model won’t get the bigger 1.6-litre engine, we don’t see a huge drop in prices. This is because the new model will offer many more features. Also, with the engine getting the SHVS tech, costs are bound to increase. The S Cross 2017 could go on sale at a starting price of Rs 8.50 lakh and go all the way to Rs 11 lakh for the top-end model.
Even though the new car might have a higher asking price, chances are that it will be able to justify it though its new styling, more features and the updated engine. Official bookings for the new car are yet to open. However, many NEXA dealerships are starting taking unofficial bookings for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Currently, the S-Cross is available with two Diesel engines – a 1.3-litre DDiS200 with a maximum power of 89 BHP and a peak torque of 200 Nm, and a 1.6-litre DDiS320 with a maximum power of 118 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The facelift, however, will get only the smaller one of these two motors. This Fiat-sourced turbocharged Diesel engine comes with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and goes on to produce a maximum power of 89 BHP and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The facelift will launch with the excellent SHVS mild hybrid tech. This should enhance the average mileage by a small margin. SHVS is already being offered on the Ertiga and the Ciaz.
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Mileage
City | 20 KMPL |
Highway | 27 KMPL |
Overall | 23 KMPL |
The introduction of SHVS mild hybrid technology should help the new Maruti S Cross 2017 offer a higher average mileage than the current model. Expect the ARAI-certified figure to be somewhere north of 27 KMPL. Even in real world driving conditions, the new model will be able to deliver as much as 23 KMPL on the highway and 20 KMPL in city. The increase in mileage should help the car attract more buyers.
Basically, Maruti’s Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) aids the engine through a brake energy regeneration and an Integrated Starter Generator. So, basically, the energy produced while applying brakes is changed into electricity through this generator. This electricity is then stored in the battery, which in turn is used to power the alternator. In such a system, the alternator isn’t dependent on the engine for power. Hence, this leads to a slight increase in the car’s average mileage.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Exterior
The new Maruti S Cross 2017 facelift boasts a comprehensively revised front facade. The new front fascia comes with a bolder grille, an updated front bumper, and a set of new headlamps. These headlamps offer a projector setup along with stylish LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The new front grille comes finished in chrome and makes the updated car’s front-end look all the more premium. The side profile remains largely the same. The only difference arises out of the more stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, the S Cross 2017 facelift comes with an updated set of taillamps.
We think the facelift looks really more modern than the current model. We have always been fond of the design and styling of this flagship Maruti product. The latest set of styling updates make the car even better in terms of its visual appeal. The car’s front-end looks more modern and attractive. All the changes really work well to make the crossover more attractive
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Interior
In all frankness, the interior doesn’t even get half the number of changes as the exterior. that said, the updates do work well to give the car a more premium feel. The dashboard gets some soft touch plastic while the seats get a new upholstery. The centre console gets some revisions, too. It continues to hold the excellent SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit. This 7.0-inch unit offers Android Auto, Mirror Link, and Apple CarPlay.
The interior of the S Cross can easily accommodate five passengers in reasonable comfort. This car scores highly on ergonomics and passenger comfort. With the introduction of the new Maruti SCross facelift 2017, the car should get even better in most of these aspects
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Engine and Gearbox
In most international markets, the Suzuki S-Cross is available with two Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines – 1.0-litre, three-cylinder and 1.4-litre, four-cylinder. Yes, this is the same 1.0-litre engine that powers the Baleno RS. Anyway, coming back to the S Cross, these motors output 112 BHP-170 Nm and 140 BHP-220 Nm respectively. Both the motors offer two transmission options- 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. ALLGRIP All Wheel Drive system is available as an option on the 1.4-litre Boosterjet variant. The Diesel engine on sale is the same Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre Turbo-Diesel motor that has been available in India as well. This motor produces a maximum power of 120 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a DCT and ALLGRIP AWD as optional in Europe. In India, it gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
With the facelift, however, the 1.6-litre engine will be no longer available. The updated car will go on sale with the 1.3-litre turbo Diesel engine only. This engine produces 89 BHP and 200 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Until now, speculations were rife that the India-spec model will also get a 1.5-liter Petrol engine that outputs 100 BHP-133 Nm. However, it now looks like India will get only the 1.3-litre Diesel engine. The good part is that this engine will now offer Maruti’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. This should lead to a substantial increase in the car’s mileage.
