Recent spy shots of Maruti’s Micro-SUV, a possible replacement for the ageing Alto, reveals that it takes substantial inspiration from Future Concept S.
Maruti Suzuki confirmed last year at the Auto Expo that they will launch the production version of their Concept Future S based micro-SUV, in India, during the second half of 2019. And, it seems that the Indo-Japanese automaker is on track with that promise. A recent spy shot, of what seems to be the final production-ready iteration of Maruti’s Micro-SUV, reveals that it takes substantial inspiration from the Concept Future S.
The test mule seen in the images appears to be roughly the same size as that of the Maruti Ignis. And slightly larger than the Renault KWID. If this new micro-SUV, replaces the Alto, then it is going to sit below the Ignis in Maruti portfolio. The spy shots clearly indicate that this vehicle will have a high-seating stance.
We can also see that the car is likely to come with a central instrument cluster. And that the infotainment system will be placed right below it. The system could be Maruti’s new Smartplay unit. It will offer connectivity through Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

Maruti’s new micro-SUV, the replacement of the Alto is going to use the automaker’s HEARTECT-A platform. This is the same underpinnings on which the current generation Maruti Wagon R is based on. This will help this vehicle acheive the required safety regulations. In addition to this, the vehicle will get driver side airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and high-speed slert systems as standard as well.
In terms of engine specifications, it is likely that Maruti will introduce this micro-SUV with just petrol engine in its line-up. We expect that this vehicle is going to get the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine. First, it will be launched in the BS-IV spec and then later, upgraded to meet the BS-VI spec. A 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT options will be on offer.
