Maruti Suzuki is finally entering the EV segment in the Indian market. The company plans to launch its electric car late next year or in 2025.
Maruti Suzuki is one of the most successful brands in the Indian automobile market. It continues to dominate the ICE mass market space. Finally, the company is all set to launch its first electric car. It will be based on the eVX concept as Maruti plans to focus on premium zero-emission offerings. The eVX concept was first displayed at the 2023 Auto Expo. Suzuki Motor Corporation plans to launch as many as six EVs in India by FY 2030. Here’s all we know about the upcoming cars.

First Maruti Suzuki Electric Car to Launch by 2024-End
The first Maruti Suzuki EV will be available by the end of 2024 or early 2025. It will be based on Toyota’s 27 PL architecture (derived from the global 40 PL). The dedicated skateboard platform comes with packaging advantages. It allows the wheels to be pushed to the edges and offer extra room for the passenger inside. The electric car is likely to feature a coupe-like roofline. It is likely to come with single and dual electric motor setups. The electric SUV is expected to come with a driving range of around 550 km.
In addition to the EVs mentioned above, the company is reportedly working on an affordable EV based on the WagonR. It is also planning to bring an electric variant of the Fronx compact SUV coupe and the Swift. The company is also working on the Huster EV. We might also see an electric SUV based on the Grand Vitara and a C-segment MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross. Additionally, Suzuki plans to introduce an entry-level electric CV in Japan soon. The production pipeline also includes eight new electric two-wheelers and several hybrid cars.

The passenger electric vehicle segment is seeing healthy growth in the Indian market. It is no longer a niche segment with expensive price tags. Multiple brands have launched affordable EV models. This includes the likes of Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and the MG Comet. It is a perfect time for Maruti Suzuki to enter this segment. The first Maruti Suzuki EV is expected to be launched late next year or in 2025. As of now, there is no information about its price tag.
