Soon after the launch of the Maruti Jimny, an owner decided to chop-off half the roof and the pillars for some modification. Sadly, his mod project failed and we never got to know what happened to the unfortunate SUV. Now, though, we have visuals of what has to be the first instance of the Maruti Jimny’s roof being chopped off to create a Safari vehicle. It is just mind-blowing to witness how far and extreme Jimny owners are willing to go to make their SUVs stand apart from the crowd. We’ve noticed numerous owners opting for extensive modifications to achieve a rugged and robust appearance. Although the nameplate is famous for the 3-door version, India gets the more practical 5-door iteration. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest modification on the lightweight off-roader.

Maruti Jimny’s Roof Chopped
This post comes from rajputanajeeps on Instagram. It captures a neatly stitched-together video from the images of a unique Jimny. The owner wanted to go for the Safari edition model. To achieve that, he went ahead and had its roof removed. The aim is to come up with a rather hardcore version, the likes of which we see in jungle safari SUVs. There is no roof so that people can get enough space to stand and look at the animals easily. A windshield is installed at the front. It certainly looks like the old-school model and something that you could take to the jungle safaris.

Specs
The Maruti Jimny comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B petrol engine, delivering a respectable 103 hp and 134 Nm of peak power and torque. You can pair this engine with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Efficient power distribution to all four wheels is ensured by Suzuki’s renowned ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 drivetrain, featuring a low-range transfer case and a locking differential. The SUV boasts a ground clearance of 210 mm, along with impressive approach, break-over, and departure angles at 36°, 24°, and 50° respectively. In terms of pricing, it ranges from a competitive Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh, ex-showroom.

What We Think
On looking at the entire range of work of this car shop, I could clearly see they’ve long been in the business of making Jeeps for wildlife safaris. In fact, they can modify all versions of the Jeeps from the previous generations to make them look unique. The owners can come to them with a specific purpose and they will ensure that the SUV fulfils those jobs. Hence, the car modification house is a professional firm which deals with lightweight modifications frequently. Still, we must warn our readers that all such modifications are illegal in India.
