After the arrival of the Maruti Jimny in our market, the new owners are taking their new SUVs to various off-roading locations to test their abilities.
In this latest video, a Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Scorpio N are being tested on the basis of their ground clearance. Jimny is the newest entrant into the Indian market. It is a lightweight off-roader that has a rich legacy of over 50 years in the international markets. Currently, it is in its 4th-gen avatar. But this is the first time a Jimny has 5 doors. It happened just for the Indian market where the buyers value practicality a lot. On the other hand, the Scorpio N is the modern iteration of a veteran workhorse. Hence, it has the rugged characteristics of the old Scorpio with the addition of modern comfort and tech features.

Jimny vs Scorpio N Ground Clearance
This video has been created by Gaurav Kharsan on YouTube. It showcases an off-roading scenario with these two capable SUVs. Firstly, Jimny comes to the point where a huge slope is visible on the ground. It is hunch-shaped covered in mud. This section is compact which is ideal to test the ground clearance of any vehicle. Jimny is able to pass over it with relative ease. Its tyres were briefly in the air but the 4×4 drivetrain was able to pull the SUV away. Thereafter, the Scorpio N hits the ground which can partially be attributed to the lacking skills of the driver and partly to the low ground clearance of the Scorpio N.

This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission with the ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 drivetrain. On the other hand, the Scorpio N comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine in two states of tune – 132 PS / 300 Nm and 175 PS / 400 Nm of peak power and torque and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 200 PS and 380 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission with 2WD and 4WD configurations.

What We Think
Testing the ground clearance of off-roading SUVs is a rather common occurrence in the adventure community. However, we would not recommend it to anyone who is not experienced enough to deal with such road conditions. In fact, there could be long-term damage to the components of the vehicles if things go wrong. Hence, you must try and stay away from such stunts and leave them to the professionals. Also, you should only go to extreme off-roading environments if you have the necessary skills in your driving. Otherwise, things could get wrong rapidly.
