It’s no secret that Maruti Jimny failed to set the cash counters ringing. In fact, the low demand for the off-roader even compels the carmaker and the dealerships to offer huge discounts to move the inventory. Back in March, we reported how select dealers were offering benefits of upwards of Rs 2.2 lakh. Fast forward to June, and these offers went up as high as Rsย 2.5 Lakh on the Alpha and Rs 2 Lakh on the Zeta trim. This month, the deal gets even sweeter with the discounts amounting to a massive Rs 3.3 Lakh. With this, the Jimny undercuts the Mahindra Thar RWD by a huge margin. In fact, the base model can be bought for as low as Rs 9.9 lakh. Let me provide you with full details.
Maruti Jimny Now Significantly More Affordable Than Mahindra Thar
This month, the Maruti Jimny is available with a meaty cash discount. But what sweetens the deal is the additional cash discount on buying the vehicle through the carmaker’s in-house financial services. The discounts are higher on the top-spec Alpha trim. It’s on sale with a cash benefit of Rs 1.8 lakh. Additionally, there’s a further cash discount of Rs 1.5 lakh on buying the car through Maruti Finance. On the other hand, the Zeta version is available with a cash discount of Rs 1.75 lakh along with an additional offer of Rs 1 lakh on buying the car through Maruti Finance.
Cash Discount | Cash Benefit Through Maruti Finance | Total Discount | |
Maruti Jimny Alpha | Rs 1.8 Lakh | Rs 1.5 Lakh | Rs 3.3 Lakh |
Maruti Jimny Zeta | Rs 1.75 Lakh | Rs 1 Lakh | Rs 2.75 Lakh |
With Rs 2.75 lakh shelved off the ex-showroom price, the Zeta range now effectively starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom after discounts). As for the Alpha variant, it’s available for Rs 12,38,000 (ex-showroom after discounts). These prices are for the manual variants after factoring in the discount offers. Please note that the offers stay the same regardless of the transmission option you choose. Also, select dealerships with surplus stock could offer some additional sweeteners.

In comparison, the Mahindra Thar has been available sans discount. The perpetually high demand for the off-roader leads to the lack of any sort of offers. At the moment, prices for the popular off-roader start at Rs 11.35 lakh and go all the way to Rs 17.60 lakh. It’s even worth noting here that the entry-level Thar gets an RWD setup while all variants of the Jimny offer 4×4. This gives Jimny a clear advantage over the arch-rival, especially in the eyes of buyers who are on a strict budget. The Jimny even offers a more practical 5-door setup. However, bigger dimensions, more power, better resale, and a diesel engine option work in Thar’s favor.
Our View
With discounts once again reaching an all-time high, the Maruti Jimny looks like a great bang for the buck – it’s a serious off-roader available at a seriously lucrative price point. However, we will have to wait and watch if these offers translate into a much higher demand. With the Thar offering a diesel mill as well as a higher street presence, it has been tough for the Jimny to attract buyers. But what’s clear is that now’s probably the best time for off-roaders to pick up Maruti’s thoroughbred off-roader at rock-bottom prices.
