Thar Had Aftermarket Alloys
While this might be shocking at first glance, look closely and you might find a reason for this result. The Thar features aftermarket alloy wheels. In fact, they are clearly over-sized and have low-profile tyres. While such tyres are great on sports cars, they certainly reduce the off-roading prowess of any car. That could be the major reason for such a flop show by Thar. That also explains why the SUV was getting stuck in the sand so easily. On the other hand, the Jimny glided over the obstacle quite effortlessly.
What We Think
While the Jimny might have trounced the Thar on this occasion, we must not get carried away and pass judgement. Both these are mighty capable and impressive products, especially in hardcore off-roading environments. They have a proven track record for decades. Hence, we can’t say that the Jimny is better than the Thar or vice versa. It’s just that, on this occasion, the Thar didn’t perform as well as it could have. The reason has to be the aftermarket alloy wheels. We would like our readers to take this as a reference to see how the off-roading prowess could be drastically affected by aftermarket modifications.
