The launch of the Maruti Jimny barely took place a week ago and it is already available in the used car market.
The popular Maruti Jimny has already commenced arriving in the used car market just a week after its launch. That might be shocking to some people. But it has become a trend lately. People book cars which are widely anticipated and then sell them off for some profit days after the delivery to those who get long waiting times. For instance, Jimny already garnered over 30,000 even before the prices were announced. Hence, it is natural that the waiting times for it will be huge. To avoid all that, one could directly purchase it from the used car market.

Maruti Jimny on Sale in Used Car Market
This advertisement was published on a Facebook page, where a Jimny owner is selling his brand new SUV in its top Alpha AT trim in Ludhiana, Punjab. He took the delivery just a couple of days ago and has not driven it at all. He is charging a premium of around Rs 1 lakh on it. The asking price is Rs 18.50 lakh while the on-road price of the top trim Jimny is around Rs 17.50 lakh. Depending on your location, this on-road price might vary slightly. Still, Rs 1 lakh is a rather huge premium to pay. But it is suited for those who want to have the Jimny immediately beating the long waiting times.

Common Practice
We first saw this practice on a large scale with the Mahindra Scorpio N. The waiting period on it was massive at the time and still is. Therefore, some people book such popular cars on day 1 and get the delivery early. Thereafter, they charged a premium on it and offer to sell it to potential customers who want it early. Generally, all these cars are brand new and are not driven at all. Hence, one could be assured that the vehicle has not been abused for years as is the case with typical used cars.

What We Think
Since we are a part of the automobile world, we are aware of such practices. We must admit that we have encountered such activities more in recent years. The most popular cars always face the issue of long waiting periods. Most carmakers can’t suddenly increase the production capacity of their manufacturing plants overnight. Also, they don’t need to do that because the spike in demand is just in the initial days. But people who want their cars early are left frustrated if they are given a delivery date of over a year. For them, such deals could make sense if they are able to bargain for a ‘reasonable’ premium.
