Ever since the Maruti Jimny has been launched in India, we keep getting to witness its off-roading battles with the iconic Mahindra Thar.
This has to be the first mud plunging challenge between the Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Thar on YouTube. The arrival of Maruti Jimny has warranted a challenge to the legendary Mahindra Thar. Both these are the most capable off-roading SUVs at this price point. Jimny has achieved international success for decades now. It is one of the most recognised vehicles among the off-roading community. On the other hand, the Thar has engaged Indian audiences for multiple years now. Let us take a look at how well these two fare against each other in this unique challenge.

Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Thar in Mud
The video has been uploaded by Mannat Bajwa on YouTube. It captures the YouTuber along with his friends who are out to test the capabilities of their off-roading vehicles. The convoy consists of typical SUVs of this segment including multiple Mahindra Thars, the new Maruti Jimny and the Isuzu V-Cross. It looks like they have chosen a wet muddy field to perform some stunts in these SUVs. Note that all these vehicles have installed aftermarket alloy wheels which are colossal. In general, such large alloys deteriorate the adventurous prowess of any car.

Firstly, we see the Thar enter the muddy pool of water. It does quite well as the driver is able to manoeuvre it quite confidently. Sure, there are some slippages, but that is expected with such low-profile tyres. The other Thars also join in pretty soon. Thereafter, Jimny enters the field as well. Even it has large aftermarket alloys. All these vehicles temporarily get stuck in the slush but are able to get out every time. In the final part of the video, we also notice the white Isuzu V-Cross doing the mud-slinging quite convincingly.

What We Think
We love to witness such hardcore off-roaders in their natural habitat. However, we are not huge fans of such large alloys. In reality, these only enhance the aesthetics of the vehicles. Their practical advantages are almost zero. On the contrary, these affect the performance of the SUVs during off-roading adventures negatively. We won’t recommend installing such large wheels on your SUVs if you wish to use them for off-tarmac scenarios quite often. But if you are just looking for highway rides and want an SUV with a road presence, you might consider them although with a lot of modifications to other mechanical components of the car as well.
