Maruti Jimny owners are taking their brand new SUVs to the aftermarket to get larger alloys to enhance the road presence.
This has to be India’s first Maruti Jimny with 21-inch alloy wheels. Jimny has created quite a buzz in our market after its launch a few weeks ago. People are buying it left and right because of its proven off-roading capabilities. It has been an iconic production in the international market for decades now. In fact, India also got its flavour in the form of the Gypsy. Gypsy was the second-gen Jimny. The current model is the fourth-gen version but it is for the first time ever that there is a 5-door version just for the Indian market. Let us take a look at what the Jimny owners are doing to make their SUVs stand apart from the crowd.

Maruti Jimny with 21-inch Alloy Wheels
This post has been shared as YouTube Shorts by CruiseRider. It captures a video of the Jimny with humungous 21-inch alloys. Note that the regular Jimny is offered with 15-inch alloys. Hence, this is clearly a huge step up from that. The raised ground clearance is evident in the video. There is a 10-spoke design pattern that looks quite attractive. In fact, the owner has even purchased the 5th alloy which is mounted on the boot door visible in the video. It certainly enhances the aesthetic appeal of the lightweight off-roader.

Specs
Maruti Jimny comes powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B petrol engine that develops a decent 103 hp and 134 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The power is sent to all four wheels via Suzuki’s trademark ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 drivetrain with a low-range transfer case and locking differential. Its ground clearance is 210 mm and the approach, break-over and departure angles are 36°, 24° and 50° respectively. The prices range from an attractive Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh, ex-showroom.

What We Think
There are many Jimny owners who are trying to make their cars look unique by installing significantly larger alloys compared to what the car has in stock settings. While there is an aesthetic appeal to it, there are considerable downsides too. For instance, these add a lot of weight which reduces the mileage drastically. Moreover, when such large wheels are used, one must make the necessary changes to other components of the vehicle as well. This includes things like steering mechanism, spacers in suspension to ensure that the body of the car doesn’t brush against the tyre, differently calibrated suspension and more. Otherwise, there might be mechanical damage to the car in the long run.
