What We Think
After the arrival of the Hyundai Exter in this segment, we reckon that Maruti Suzuki has prophylactically started offering such discounts on the Ignis which could easily be seen as a direct rival to the micro SUV. The Tata Punch is already a successful product in the segment which is eating away at the sales and market share of the Ignis for a while now. In order to recuperate some of this lost market share, Maruti is trying the oldest trick in the book. It will be interesting to see if people get persuaded by such heavy discounts in times to come.
