In June of 2011, there were talks that Maruti Suzuki India is considering the next plant location at Gujarat to meet the ever growing demand of cars in India. This information was shared by MSIL Chairman Mr. R C Bhargav back in June 2011. In the recent developments and information revealed after the board meeting at the end of Q2, the top bosses of Maruti have given their green signal to the plant planned in Gujarat. Since Gujarat state has more industry friendly infrastructure, policies and administration, it has become one of the most favorable destinations for industries in India. Especially for the industries which involve exports, the proximity to ports helps save lots of time and money.

The proposed plant will be developed in the Mehsana district of Gujarat with a whooping investment of Rs. 12000 Crores and will be developed in phases. The plant will become fully functional by 2016 with a full production capacity to produce 20 lakh cars (2 million cars) per year. Having a second plant in Gujarat will also help Maruti save on time a cost of delivering the cars to the southern parts of India, while the northern parts can still be served by the Gurgaon and Manesar plant.
Apart from the Mehsana plant of Maruti Suzuki India, the ancillary units required for Maruti Suzuki cars assembly plant will also attract an added investment of Rs. 6000 Crores in Gujarat state and will also development new employment opportunities. The legal process of land purchase and other legalities are yet to be completed and may take some time, but in longer run, its going to be a win win situation for both Maruti and Gujarat state.
