The Grand Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s answer to the mighty successful Hyundai Creta in India.
The much-awaited crash test of the Maruti Grand Vitara has finally occurred but the safety rating at the NCAP is not out yet. The visuals have been leaked from the testing facility and are doing rounds on the internet. Grand Vitara belongs to the mega-popular mid-size SUV segment. Its arch nemesis includes Korean products like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. In the last few years, this segment has displayed immense growth and popularity. That is why the largest carmaker had to introduce a vehicle in this space. For now, let us stick to the leaked details of the crash test of the Maruti Grand Vitara.
Maruti Grand Vitara Safety Rating at NCAP
The visuals capture the real-life footage of the crash test. The Grand Vitara faces the frontal impact test along with a side pole impact test. There is also the side impact test which consists of a moving vehicle (dummy) hitting the car from the side. Since these are leaked videos, we are not sure about the final results. Still, the airbags seemed to have worked fine and the damage (or lack thereof) to the exterior of the SUV looks promising. We won’t comment on the results but it is clear that we will get to know the official safety rating of the Maruti Grand Vitara very soon.
Maruti Grand Vitara comes with two engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder mild hybrid petrol or a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder strong hybrid engine. The former is good for a familiar 103 hp and 136 Nm, while the latter generates a healthy 116 hp and 141 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The former even comes with an all-wheel-drive configuration. With the strong hybrid mill, you get an AC synchronous electric motor and a Lithium-ion battery pack. The mild hybrid offers the alternative to the buyers to select between either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission, whereas the strong hybrid is available with a sole e-CVT automatic gearbox. There is also an 87 hp and 121 Nm CNG mill on offer. The prices range from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 20.09 lakh, ex-showroom.

Our View
I am sure that all our readers must be aware of the image Maruti Suzuki has when it comes to NCAP ratings of its cars. Apart from the Brezza, the other vehicles have not performed too well in the crash tests. However, the new breed of vehicles from Maruti’s stable might potentially alter that image for good. Grand Vitara bears a huge onus on its shoulders to transform the image of the largest carmaker in the country in the minds of customers. Once that happens, the already immensely successful car marque could even witness a further boost in demand and sales. Let us wait for the official crash test rating.
