Maruti Fronx is a popular crossover hatchback/SUV which is yet to receive an official safety rating by a designated authority like Bharat NCAP. It has found a niche for itself when the customers are running after compact SUVs. There is extremely fierce competition in this segment of our market. All major carmakers offer some products in this category. Hence, to stand apart from the crowd is not easy. Interestingly, even Maruti Suzuki sells the Brezza in this space. Somehow, I feel that the Fronx offers a different dimension by being based on the Baleno. For now, let us take a look at the details of what the Maruti Fronx safety rating could depend on.
Maruti Fronx Safety Rating and Features
Now we know that the safety rating of any car depends highly on the active and passive safety features on offer. I must mention here that the sheer number of these amenities is not enough for a high rating. The construction of the vehicle, its performance to safeguard passenger movement during a crash, its pedestrian safety capabilities, etc are also taken into consideration before handing out a rating. Hence, it is a comprehensive process. Still, depending on the kind of safety features on offer, one can understand a few aspects. The Maruti Fronx comes with a ton of safety features including:
- 6 Airbags to prevent the head of the passengers from colliding with the interior of the car like the dashboard or steering wheel.
- Head-Up Display to offer relevant information to the driver just above the instrument cluster to ensure that the he/she doesn’t have to take his/her eyes off the road.
- Hill Hold Assist to prevent the undesired movement of the car on steep slopes. This is particularly helpful while driving on the mountainous roads.
- ABS with EBD to ensure that the wheels of the car don’t get locked during hard braking. That will prevent the car from skidding.
- Rear View Camera to display the surroundings at the rear to manoeuvre the car around easily
- Seat Belt Reminder (Front & Rear) to remind the passengers to fasten their seat belts while moving. It could be the single biggest reason which could prevent a fatal injury to the occupants.
- All 3-Point ELR Seat Belts to give the appropriate safety and protection against unwanted movement for every occupant. Note that, generally, the middle passenger at the rear gets a lap belt and not a full 3-point configuration.
- Electronic Stability Program to prevent the tyres from skidding due to any reason by improving traction and vehicle’s stability.
- Rear Defogger to ensure visibility through the rear windshield during those foggy conditions.
- Anti-Theft Security System to prevent the miscreants from attempting to break in when the car is parked outside, or even in the garage.
- ISOFIX Child Seat Restraint System to offer a comfortable and secure way to carry children around.
- Inside Rear View Mirror (Day/Night) to prevent the glare from other drivers’ cars.

Maruti Fronx Specs and Price
The Maruti Fronx has gained so much prominence despite featuring in the crowded space due to many reasons including multiple powertrain options. These include a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine generating 90 PS / 113 Nm and 100 PS / 147 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Also, buyers looking for an engine with low running costs can opt for a 1.2-litre CNG+Petrol mill which churns out a decent 78 PS and 99 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between either a 5-speed manual or an AMT with the 1.2-litre NA petrol mill or a 5-speed manual and automatic transmission with the turbo variant.
At present, the CNG mill can only be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, rumours are looming large which suggests that we might see an AMT version with a CNG engine going forward as well. For the NA petrol, the buyers will get a healthy mileage of 21.79 kmpl for the manual to 22.89 kmpl for the AMT. On the other hand, the turbo petrol trim offers 20.01 kmpl. Similarly, the CNG variants are good for 28.51 km/kg. If you wish to get your hands on the Fronx, the prices range from Rs 7.51 lakh to Rs 13.04 lakh, ex-showroom.

Maruti realizes that its vehicles have not performed all that well on the NCAP tests in the past. It wants to remedy that which is why it offers its new cars with reinforced structures and offers tons of the latest safety amenities. Even though we await the official Maruti Fronx safety rating, the signs look positive for a decent score. The aforementioned safety features will contribute immensely toward that goal.
