Maruti Ertiga with the new 1.5 Litre diesel engine is launching soon in India. Currently, it uses the old 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel motor.
Maruti Suzuki has finally debuted its in-house developed 1.5 Litre diesel engine, with the new Ciaz. As per reports, Maruti Ertiga is the second model to get the new engine onboard.
The old unit is a 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine, that has been used for years now. As the stringent BS-6 norms are kicking in from next year, the old engine is being replaced.
You might be expecting the diesel variant to be available with the SHVS Mild-Hybrid technology. However, just like the new Ciaz, the diesel engine will not be getting this technology.

The 1.3 Litre unit produces 88 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The new engine produces 94 BHP and 225 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox will be offered too.
The new Maruti Ertiga uses the new 1.5 Litre petrol engine, that comes with the mild-hybrid system. The motor produces 107 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque, coming paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The mileage figures of the new diesel engine are likely to decrease. The outgoing model promises 27 kmpl, which will come down to 24-25 kmpl.

Going to the mechanics of the upcoming engine, it uses Dual Mass Flywheel and an aluminium cylinder block, which is lighter. The current 1.3 Litre one uses a cast iron block.
Other than the new engine, there would not be any changes to the new Maruti Ertiga. We expect the prices to be hiked by Rs 20000 approximately. The diesel variant now starts from Rs 9.56 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Meanwhile, Ertiga will finally get an ideal competitor soon, in the form of Renault Triber. The upcoming MUV is going to be launched soon in India.
