In this latest video, a Maruti Dzire hits a Honda Hornet from the rear. Dzire is the most popular compact sedan in the country. The buyers hail from various backgrounds including private individuals as well as commercial fleet operators. Based on the mighty successful Swift, the Dzire has an extended boot compartment making it a proper sedan. However, there are many videos that talk about the quality of Maruti cars in real-life crashes. In fact, Maruti has been receiving flak for low score of some of its cars at the Global NCAP test bed. Let’s have a look at the latest incident.

Maruti Dzire Hits Honda Hornet
This video comes from Nikhil Rana on YouTube. The vlogger has been notorious for giving commentary on ‘build quality’ of a vehicle simply by looking at some visuals. It’s even important to mention here that the said vlogger has no formal training to offer expert commentary on a vehicle’s safety. On this occasion, a crash between a Maruti Dzire and a Honda Hornet motorcycle is recorded from Odisha. As per the information in the video, the sedan hit the bike from behind on the highway. But the consequences are quite interesting. The entire front section of the car is damaged. On the other hand, the bike seems to be in a near perfect condition. But that doesn’t prove anything since the bumpers of most cars are made of plastic and are meant to be deformed during crashes for pedestrian safety. Of course, the occupants of the vehicle didn’t suffer from any injury from this crash.

Incidentally, the damage to the front section of the Dzire looks just too much. However, we must understand that there are crumple zones on every car. Moreover, the grille and the bumper, which make up for the Dzire’s entire front facade, are actually soft parts that deform easily. That could be the reason for such huge damage. Also, the easily deformable bumper even ensures enough pedestrian safety. One must note here that there has been no damage to the monocoque whatsoever. In fact, even the sheet metal is fine except for the mis-aligned hood.
That said, the third-gen Swift on which the Dzire is based hasn’t performed well at Global NCAP. That is what attracts a lot of criticism from everyone. We hope that Maruti works on this aspect so that people can be confident about their safety in these cars. Regardless of that, the commentary from self-proclaimed experts like the one who has uploaded this video should be taken with a fistful of salt.

What We Think
Maruti Suzuki has been the biggest carmaker in the country since its inception. Its cars sell like hotcakes. The prominent reasons for that is its dense dealership and service network, high mileage, peppy engines, low maintenance, high reliability and attractive pricing. However, many cars from Maruti have not scored well at Global NCAP. This is one area where the carmaker should focus to not just silence the criticisers but to ensure safety of its customers. Still, though, it’s actually alarming how just about anyone goes on to offer ‘expert’ commentary on a vehicle’s crash-worthiness merely by looking at pictures of a crash. Hence, viewer’s should know better than to blindly follow such content developers.
